Skinning objects - Unrolling, Extruding, and Lowering polygons

Image
SKINNING OBJECTS    For this post we were supposed to take ten objects in Rhino and use commands like extrude, unrollsrf etc. and eventually come up with the patterns for all ten objects. I didn't have much trouble with this assignment. Although I had some trouble initially because whenever I had unrolled an object the unrolled parts would be separate and not connected like in the examples. By playing around a bit in Rhino I realized that my issue was that explode was toggled on whenever I tried to unroll an object.  After turning that off everything else was a breeze.

Papercraft Assignment- Concepts

Papercraft Research

Papercraft  Research  What is Papercraft?  Papercraft is the artistic medium that uses the paper to create 2d or 3d objects. With using a medium like paper there are many ways in which the paper can be manipulated. It can be folded, cut, formed, taped together into the artist's vision.   Hari and Deepti renowned papercraft artists comment on the nature of paper craft: Paper is brutal in its simplicity as a medium. It demands the attention of the artist while it provides the softness, they need to mold it into something beautiful. It is playful, light, colourless, and colourful. It is minimal and intricate. It reflects light, creates depth and illusions in a way that it takes artist through a journey with limitless possibilities.  Hari and Deepti carefully layer intricately cut pieces of paper within a shadow box to create scenes. The layers are then lit from the back by LED lights to create striking silhouettes. Each layer is cut from sturdy watercol...

Mashup Rendering Assignment

Image
Mashup Rendering Assignment I had originally wanted to use my Hand flowers, while going through the rendering process I had some issues with the assigned materials that I couldn't figure out. In the end I decided to render my eye soup concept as I felt I could use some less complicated materials. I still really like the Eye soup concept, but I feel like I was limited due to my lack of knowledge. In the future I would ideally want to find some different materials online that up the creepiness factor and some new realistic eye models. I would also maybe use what I learned from the ring assignment and create some blood puddles or splatters with the polyline tool.  Through the act of taking premade objects and placing them together with a unique vision in mind is what I believe relates my concept to remix culture. I tried to create a juxtaposition that left the viewer uneasy. Using these everyday household objects/images people associate one way and then adding human parts to un...
