Papercraft Research

Papercraft  Research  What is Papercraft?  Papercraft is the artistic medium that uses the paper to create 2d or 3d objects. With using a medium like paper there are many ways in which the paper can be manipulated. It can be folded, cut, formed, taped together into the artist's vision.   Hari and Deepti renowned papercraft artists comment on the nature of paper craft: Paper is brutal in its simplicity as a medium. It demands the attention of the artist while it provides the softness, they need to mold it into something beautiful. It is playful, light, colourless, and colourful. It is minimal and intricate. It reflects light, creates depth and illusions in a way that it takes artist through a journey with limitless possibilities.  Hari and Deepti carefully layer intricately cut pieces of paper within a shadow box to create scenes. The layers are then lit from the back by LED lights to create striking silhouettes. Each layer is cut from sturdy watercol...

Mashup Rendering Assignment

Image
Mashup Rendering Assignment I had originally wanted to use my Hand flowers, while going through the rendering process I had some issues with the assigned materials that I couldn't figure out. In the end I decided to render my eye soup concept as I felt I could use some less complicated materials. I still really like the Eye soup concept, but I feel like I was limited due to my lack of knowledge. In the future I would ideally want to find some different materials online that up the creepiness factor and some new realistic eye models. I would also maybe use what I learned from the ring assignment and create some blood puddles or splatters with the polyline tool.  Through the act of taking premade objects and placing them together with a unique vision in mind is what I believe relates my concept to remix culture. I tried to create a juxtaposition that left the viewer uneasy. Using these everyday household objects/images people associate one way and then adding human parts to un...

Remix Culture Assignment

REMIX CULTURE  To me Remix culture is when existing media is taken and then transformed into something new. The media is used in ways you might not have thought of before; I like to see it as a kind of collaboration.    I was just inspired by the saying The Bees Knees as I thought taking a literal approach would be interesting visually.  Elephant with human legs - KotneiJoseph: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5200060 Hive Board- Board Game by Thiernope: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2811301/files Bee Hive by Kerijalen23: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:666916/files Bee by MintyFries: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2236505/files While scrolling through Thinginverse I came across this model of hands which I thought would look interesting if I placed them together turning into these weird flowers. While creating the flowers I thought the palms looked a bit empty, so I decided to embed eyes to add some extra interest. Hand Plate Stand by i8yurdog: ht...

Objectified Assignment - Post no. 1

Image
Objectified Assignment After watching Gary Hustwit's Objectified , I was inspired by the ideas presented by Hella Jongerius and Bill Moggridge; That objects can generate feelings of sentimentality and that through the acclimation of memories certain materials and objects gain layers of meaning.  In particular I was interested with how Hella Jongerius mentioned using certain materials from familiar culture when designing objects to give them a more intimate feel. This had me thinking about what material I wanted my object to be made out of. In the end, I thought that leather would be the best; In leather is quite rigid but through regular use the material wears down and softens becoming molded to the consumer and their own habits. Gaining an individual element simply due to how the material behaves and in this way the object becomes better with use. When deciding what object I wanted to create I knew it had to be something that garnered daily use because such use is what creates tha...
